01 / THE SPARK
“Wish I could wave from here.”
You’re deep in your own work. Your friend is somewhere else. A tiny hello shouldn’t need a whole conversation.
POKI · THE OPEN-SOURCE LITTLE HELLO
A private circle for little hellos.
Open the app, or give Codex one setup instruction.
One instruction. Mac or Windows developer setup. Free social core.
The desktop source setup needs Git and Node.js 22.12+. The web app needs neither. This is a development preview; use test data.
FRIENDS, A LITTLE CLOSER
12 free ways to say “thinking of you.”
Free social core. Development preview. Username accounts, private friends and 12 reactions now have their own Clerk + Convex backend. Desktop builds are unsigned; AI avatars are next.

An illustrated story of where Poki is going. The working local test follows below.
01 / THE SPARK
You’re deep in your own work. Your friend is somewhere else. A tiny hello shouldn’t need a whole conversation.
02 / THE CONNECTION
Choose a username and share it with a friend. They find you, send a request, and you accept. Availability belongs to your private circle.
03 / THE MOMENT
Each friend has their own avatar, always with their name. You approve a hello, and their little presence appears in the receiving tab. No chat reading. No reply owed.
04 / THE OPEN INVITATION
The code and local inbox are free under Apache-2.0. Custom uploaded avatars belong to their creators. Fork it. Add a feature. Send a pull request; maintainers review and test it.
PLAY WITH POKI
You control both sides of this illustration.
It stays in this tab. No real people, accounts
or outbound messages are involved.

YOUR DEMO PREVIEW
Only “Hi!” is shared inside this tab. Preview expires after 60 seconds.
Start by accepting pairing as Alex and Sam.
Initials stand in for each fictional friend’s avatar. AI character generation is planned. This illustrates consent; it is not real authentication or a messaging service. Refresh clears everything. Reduced motion is respected.
BUILD IT WITH US
Poki is a separate companion product, maintained under Sintax Error. Community contributions are welcome.
FOUR STEPS TO YOUR FIRST HELLO
The connected development app is where you manage your profile, friends and privacy. The browser works now; the desktop source adds optional edge pop-ins.
Sign in, choose a username and display name. Initials work today; your free personal character is the next signup milestone.
Opt into exact-username discovery. Find your friend, send a request, and wait for their acceptance.
Choose Available. Pick one of12 free reactions, preview exactly who gets it, then approve.
Use Invisible or Do Not Disturb. Remove or block a friend. Desktop pop-ins are off until you enable them.
Open the development app ↗ No chat monitoring. No computer-activity tracking. Use test data in this preview.
Guides and status, not “connected” badges. Instagram DMs and Telegram are the channel priorities. Coding hosts are candidates until tested.
Works here without sign-in, permissions or a server.
Refresh clears state. No real accounts are linked.
Try the working demo ↗Disconnect must revoke the link and stop delivery. No Instagram app, OAuth grant or message sending is configured here.
Disconnect must unlink the account and stop routing. No bot or token is configured by this demo.
Protocol tests exist; stock host onboarding and automatic animated chat delivery are not verified.
Read the local reference ↗This is a candidate, not a working connect button. No host configuration is changed.
No OpenCode connection is installed or enabled. Other uncertain host names are not advertised as supported.
WhatsApp is outside this MVP. Instagram/Telegram adapters and OAuth connection flows are not active. The separate development app uses Clerk email sign-in and Convex. Future service policy requirements are a draft, not approved company terms.
NO MYSTERY FEATURES
A free development app, a public illustration, and a clear boundary around what comes next.
The connected app sends approved greetings to accepted friends. Desktop edge pop-ins are opt-in; arbitrary insertion into another person’s active Codex chat remains unverified.
A GOOD PLACE TO START
Have a nicer wave? A clearer control? A carefully tested feature?
Make a proposal. We’ll review and verify it together.
